Mom and Dad and Heavenly Father Love Me

Opening song: The Usual

Prayer

Give Canden a big hug and kiss. Have him sit on lap while explain how much Dad and I love him.
Story: Tell a story of when a boy made a mistake and was afraid his mommy wouldn't love him anymore, but how his mom made sure he knew she would ALWAYS love him.

(See Behold Your Little Ones, Lesson 1) Use felt board pictures (Heavenly Father and Jesus, people, clouds) to show that everyone used to live in Heaven with Heavenly Father long ago. Heavenly Father is our father. We are all his children. We were a great big family and were all brothers and sisters. We loved each other. Heavenly Father loved us so much. Then Heavenly Father sent us to Earth and even though we can't live with him while we're on earth, he still loves us so much. He is still our Father. He wants us to be happy. (Maybe sing "If You're Happy and You Know It".)

Heavenly Father sends us blessings. He asks us to say thank you for those blessings. He also asks us to share our blessings. He also asks us to come talk to him in prayer so he can tell us how much he loves us.

How do we show Heavenly Father we love him? (Prayer, Reverence, Loving Others because they are Heavenly Father's children, too)

Story: May want to read You Are Special (Punchinello story - I HIGHLY suggest this be in your collection at home. If you don't have it, let me know, and I may have just found cousin Christmas presents next year.)

Song: I Lived in Heaven

Prayer

Activity: Make Rice Krispies Treats to share with security guards

  1. How Canden did with this FHE -

He liked hugs and sitting on my lap

He always likes the felt board pictures, but then as usual wanted to put them all up and play with them. But I think he got the point I was intending.

We didn't do the You Are Special story cause I didn't think of it til just now :(

But mine and I'm sure his favorite part was making treats together. He actually got to watch the butter and marshmallows melt and he thought that was pretty neat. Eating a couple marshmallows in the process was also fun for him. But I think just having fun with mom really drove in the message that I love him.

As an additional treat, I had Dad call during the treat-making and ask for Canden. So Canden and Dad got to talk a little and Dad got to tell Canden how much he loved him, too. (Thank you for being such a good Dad, Jared.)

What we could have done better next time: had a good closing prayer where the child actually says the prayer and tells Heavenly Father he loves him. I think this could have set the stage better for Heavenly Father to tell the child that He loves him, too.

  2. So sweet. That was a good idea to have Jared call during FHE.
