Opening Song
Prayer
Show picture of Jesus with the children. Talk about how Jesus shows us love and wants us to be happy. Review who Jesus loves (mommy, daddy, each child, friends by name, etc).
Use scripture with Christ asking us to follow him. 2 Nephi 31:12 might be a good one, "Follow me, and do the things which ye have seen me do."
Explain that Jesus was nice, uses a nice voice, does not hurt people, but shows them love. Explain that we want to be like Jesus.
Learn and practice the song: I'm Trying To Be Like Jesus.
Let child draw or color pictures on a piece of paper that will help him remember the words to the song. (eg. heart - love, mouth - say, grumpy face - make a wrong choice, ear - listen, etc.) When older, can also learn sign language to the song.
Closing song
Closing Prayer
Simple, I know, and basically the same lesson we teach every FHE, but learning a new song put a little different twist on it. Canden behaved very well and even attempted to sing with me. When we drew the pictures, though, he wanted to draw a hippo. I was absolutely amazed by his hippo. I'm asking his school teacher tomorrow if she taught him how to draw a hippo because if not, then I've got a brilliant son :)
